A Midsummer Night’s Dream

“Bottom bewitches beautiful brazen
Titania tackles truly terrible tyrant
Oberon obviously overcomes onerous onslaught
Puck purposely puts potent potion in pupil of
Lysander’s lecherous eyes like lovely ladies
He hasn’t a hope in hell of having Hermia
Dashing Demetrius dotes devotedly on damsel
Mechanical mummers make magnificent melodrama

Just be grateful that Shakespeare wrote the play!”

September this year is the actual month exactly fifty years ago that Theatre West  4 was born!!

In order to celebrate this very special event  you may know that Geoffrey and Frances are organising a Dinner Dance for members to join in on Friday 12th September at Grovefield House Hotel, Taplow,    Burnham, SL1 8LR, about  twenty five miles west of Chiswick and very access-able with good parking.

A good number of ‘old’ members have already reserved their place and we hope that the dinner will be augmented by many newer (and younger!) of TW4 membership, as this is after all an occasion for all members to celebrate.  A Golden Anniversary only comes round but once in fifty years!!

The dinner dance is priced at £65 per person and this will include a 3-course served dinner, coffee and petit fours, two glasses of wine per person and a glass of Pimms upon arrival.   There will be a live band for dancing and also a cash bar available, together with a raffle during the evening.

It would be great if as many of you as possible can attend this unique occasion and as there are still some  seats available please get in touch with Geoffrey and Frances on 020 8560 1539 or     We would very much like this to be a special event for everyone at TW4 so please pick up th ‘phone  and speak to Geoffrey for Frances to reserve your seat.  You are of course very welcome to bring your spouse, partner,  friend or whoever along to this celebration but please reserve soon so you won’t be disappointed.

So Far As I Can Remember …

As you may know, founder member Tony Nicholls has for the last couple of years been recording the History of Theatre West 4 and has now reached the first 25 years’ point of our existence. Episodes of our history have regularly appeared as companion piece to the monthly issues of ‘Scene Magazine’ for our enjoyment and have brought back many wonderful memories.

This is clearly a work of love for Tony and we thank him for his dedication and wonderful evocation of Theatre West 4’s history.
A milestone was reached earlier this year when the first ten years of our existence was published in Volume 1
of his book ‘ Theatre West Four, So Far As I Can Remember’ and you will not want to miss out on this great record of our history full of anecdotes, stories, archive material and photographs, lovingly presented.

Copy of ‘Tony’s Tome’ can be purchased directly from Tony by sending a cheque for £20 (which includes packing and postage) made out to Tony Nicholls and send to him at The Nook, Fiehead St Quintin, Sturminster Newton, DT10 2AP. This wonderful volume will then wings its way to you directly for a cracking good read!
